Tehran, Nov 28 (IANS) The Iranian parliament has authorized a invoice for Iran’s membership to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the semi-official Mehr information company reported.
The invoice was authorized by the overwhelming majority of the lawmakers, in line with the report.
Abolfazl Amouei, the Spokesman for the Nationwide Safety and International Coverage Fee of parliament, on Sunday stated that the parliament’s approval of Iran’s membership to the SCO comprises a global message of “Iran’s multilateralism tendency within the area of international coverage”.
Iranian International Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian welcomed the parliament’s transfer on Twitter, saying that “the explicit vote for the invoice on the accession of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the SCO is indicative of our nation’s resolve and seriousness to develop regional, worldwide and financial cooperation and bolster (the nation’s) method to Asia”.
“The method of multilateralism is the fact of this century,” he stated.
In September 2021, the twenty first summit of the SCO leaders in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, declared the choice to begin admitting Iran as a full member of the SCO from an observer, Xinhua information company reported.
