I’m combining our final two days into one weblog…Final of Jordan and a night in Istanbul.
Friday was our final full day in Jordan, and time to go again to Amman to show the automotive in and prepare to go away Saturday morning. As we packed up and left the Petra Marriott, darkish clouds and plenty of wind have been beginning to collect. We have been grateful that the day earlier than we had nice climate and weren’t making an attempt to go to Petra within the wind and drizzle. As we drove the three hours to Amman, we had spurts of rain which didn’t look to be letting up.
Fortunately the drive was straightforward, the automotive was dropped off and we have been settled into the Amman Sheraton with a pleasant suite. We had considered doing a dinner out, however the rain began to pour, and we determined it was a good time to hold within the lodge. So, we did the fitness center, completed a e-book, and usually did nothing. Not a foul factor, because the rain stored up the remainder of the day.
Some reflections on our week in Jordan. First, the folks. I don’t know that we’ve got each felt
extra welcome in a real method this whole week. Pleasant, useful, and being constantly instructed that they hoped we loved their nation…even the fuel station man needed to ensure we have been welcomed. The roads have been good, navigating was usually straightforward (even when in tiny cities with tiny streets) and we liked seeing the Bedouins tending their sheep, with donkeys and camels conserving watch.
The meals…recent, wholesome and attractive. What extra are you able to need? We had glorious meals, and who knew…nice Jordanian wine. And to prime it off, websites that have been spectacular, historic, and compelling. All in all, an excellent mixture for a beautiful week. I do know that I used to be pushing Ken out of his consolation zone, as we’re so programmed in regards to the safeness on this area. And, there are areas that we definitely must keep away from. However, not as soon as did we really feel unsafe and in reality, whereas we have been touring there have been a number of shootings within the US. Unhappy when a US Walmart is extra of a priority than different locations on this planet.
After a pleasant evening on the Sheraton, we flew to Istanbul the place we spent the evening getting a style of the large, but
cool metropolis. We have been so comfortable to satisfy up with my brother Rick and sister-in-law Marcia who ended up being on the town as properly. Nice timing! Having not seen them for a number of years, it was one other spotlight of an already nice journey.
As beforehand written, Rick and Marcia reside in Beirut and have been in Istanbul for every week on enterprise. They led us to a few of the huge hits, Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sofia Mosque and the Blue Mosque. We obtained some nice pics with the solar happening and have been capable of go within the Blue Mosque. In all my time within the Center East, this was the primary time I had been in a mosque, and this one was extremely spectacular with its lovely ornate dome (even being underneath building).
It was now time for some dinner, and we went to a beautiful café, that did nice issues with vegis in a clay pot, in addition to different Turkish delicacies which we loved whereas sitting on cushions on the ground. After some glorious meals, we walked throughout the road for the “ice-cream expertise”. It’s extra of a present than culinary, and the server did some
enjoyable issues (some at Ken’s expense) earlier than handing over the yummy ice-cream cone.
We continued to discover and ended on the spice market (also referred to as the Egyptian market) with store after store with bins of nuts, spices, candies and cheeses. Rick has a favourite store and we had enjoyable sampling the totally different nuts, candies and dried fruit. After all, we ended up shopping for a bunch as we simply couldn’t resist! All too quickly it was time to name it an evening, as Rick/Marcia had an excellent hour drive again to the place they have been staying. We sadly mentioned goodbye, however have been so grateful to have the ability to have seen them and have the personalised mini-tour of the wonderful Istanbul. We will certainly be again!
I’ll wind up this journey by saying as a lot as we at all times love our travels, it’s also good to come back residence. And to reach with the pleasant Irish passport officer saying “welcome again” does deliver a smile to my face.
